Nikolay was born in Russia, and since 2010 he has been based in Los Angeles, CA.
In 2004 he graduated from The Institute of Natural and Humanitarian Education, Moscow, Russia with a bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design.
Nikolay began his photography career in an advertising agency "Alfa Press", where he acted as a graphic designer until 2006 and afterward as a photographer and an art director.
At first, he worked in different genres. In his early works, you may find landscapes, street portraits, and works of still life. Permanently looking for “his own genre”, Nikolay has found himself in fashion photography and studio portraits.
Nikolay Mikheev: “It is very important for me to see a person in a frame, their emotions or their absence when the model's eyes attract the sight when these eyes become a center of a photo. I love creating images with the help of stylists and makeup artists, projecting pictures from my head to reality, which later may be found in my photographs. I’m very passionate about fashion and fashion photography, so Vogue Magazines, the works of such masters as Horst P. Horst, Peter Lindbergh, Paolo Roversi, Greg Lotus, collections of fashion designers such as John Galliano, Gareth Pugh – all this is some kind of a muse for me. I'm always looking through works of different photographers and designers, marking out something for myself.”
